The Westby Murals include two artworks that are located on the east side of Westby Hall facing the Science Building. The murals were deaccessioned in the summer of 2017 due to damaged caused by the breakdown of the granule material. The Westby Murals were not removed from the building, but still exist encapsulated within a new more secure exterior wall. Designed by Dr. John Ottiano, these murals were the first public artworks on campus.

In 2021, the Department of Art reproduced the murals on aluminum plates, which were installed at the Southern entrance of Westby Hall. This new installation honor’s Dr. John Ottiano’s commitment to creative arts, his students, and the University.

Artist Dr. John Ottiano

A photograph of artist John Ottiano.

Dr. John Ottiano was a professor and department chair for the Department of Art. He taught numerous courses in the visual arts, including sculpture, jewelry, and painting. In addition, Ottiano was the founder of the department’s jewelry program and was very active in the wider community. | Learn More
