To integrate the new campus public artwork into her Participatory Public Art course, Professor Jen Kitson developed a project for students to create marketing material to promote the construction of the Time Sweeps public artwork. Students met with the artist, Thea Alvin, and then collaborated on marketing material linking the sculpture as a site for mindfulness and active mediation. The students created original artwork that was used on banners, posters, and bookmarks. These items were distributed across campus. Below are examples of the created media.
How the marking material was used:
In collaboration with Rowan University Libraries Digital Scholarship Center and the Bret McCandless, the Art Librarian, students in the Participatory Public Art course placed the bookmarks inside library books about public art, public spaces, and sculpture. The bookmarks were also made available to patrons when they stopped at the Service Desk or visited the Digital Scholarship Center. The posters and bookmarks were distributed across campus and shared at art-focused events.
