Originally intended as a water fountain, the Frame of Life features six overlapping circles with an outer circle on the concrete surrounding the sculpture. The overall form matches the “Seed of Life,” an ancient symbol in Egypt, India, Greece, and Italy.
The symbol comprises seven circles overlapping, creating a pattern of rings and the appearance of a flower in the middle. The seven circles represent the seven days of creation described in Genesis.
In addition to the circles, Hollis integrated symbols of the elements engraved on the top of the walls and around the sculpture. The front of the sculpture facing Robinson Hall features the word “Genesis.”
