Artist David Boyer describes his kinetic wind sculpture, Dreams Take Flight, as a metaphor for the dreams, aspirations, idealism, and drive that inspire young adults to attend college. Through higher education, students are elevating their minds to prepare for the challenges that await. The nine flyers, arms spread like soaring wings, are pushing through the headwinds of life, flying high as they forge ahead to make a better future. The forms, multi-colored and stainless steel, feminine and masculine flying humans, symbolize a cohesive campus community of many diverse individuals. It is through embracing this diversity that we gain strength, understanding, and a deeper commitment to our community.

This public art is located at Holly Pointe Commons on Rowan University’s campus.

David Boyer specializes in kinetic wind sculptures. This work began in the late 1990s when he started making art out of old metals and artifacts he found in the northern Nevada desert. From this experience, his ideas evolved, as did his fabrication skills. His current body of work is the product of years of steady evolution. | Learn More
