Artist Cork Marcheschi was fascinated with H.G. Wells’ science fiction novel, War of the Worlds. His sculpture, Return to Grover’s Mill, is inspired by the story’s tripod alien machines, and Orson Welles and the Mercury players’ 1938 radio broadcast. In discussing the sculpture and its connection to the 1938 radio drama, Mr. Marcheschi, noted, “Radio is all about the listener’s imagination. Suspension of disbelief was so much easier and all engrossing. I loved that a radio broadcast could freakout the population so much…”
