Livio Saganic’s sculpture, Monument to Reading, is a functional monument to the act of sitting and reading. The forms are derived from the configuration one creates in the act of opening a book. The sculpture is meant to evoke a sense of gravity and quietude, conditions akin to when one is deeply absorbed in reading a book. The monolithic granite stones have highly polished top planes in order to give the illusion of vessels filled to the brim – our ideal relationship to knowledge.
